City Kids

With our trip to South Carolina on the near horizon after months of Winter weather, store-opening, and baby-having in JH, you'd think the most appealing promise of a beach vacation would be the sun on our backs and the sand between our toes...

But in all honesty, what thrills us most is the re-entry into civilization! We haven't seen a chain coffee shop, clothing boutique, or book store, ridden an escalator, or experienced the comforting drone of public chatter, traffic, and loud-speaker announcements you find in airports and city environments, in six whole months.

I don't know any other family of four traveling with an infant and a toddler that would actually look forward to a trip requiring two stops to reach our destination. But the Reids will be en route in under two weeks, happily sipping Starbucks at the airport while riding the escalators up and down again and again, stopping only to eat Cinnabon and try on every pair of sunglasses at Sunglass Hut.

The beach won't be half bad either.
